How to build a setlist
- Tap “Add a song” and enter a title and BPM. Leaving the time signature at 4/4 is fine.
- Reorder with “Move up” and “Move down”.
- Press start and it clicks at that song's tempo. “Next song” switches the tempo with it.
How do you decide a song's tempo?
To match a record, hum the chorus and tap the tempo — that is the quickest way. For an original, sing it and find the speed where the words do not trip over each other. Ballads usually sit around 60–80, mid-tempo pop 90–120 and dance tracks 120–130. Save it to the song and you will not have to hunt for it at the next rehearsal.
Why fix your tempos before the show
Nerves make bands play faster. Writing every tempo down beforehand lets you notice in rehearsal that you are running ahead of the record. With the songs in playing order, nobody has to search for a number between numbers.
Practising with a click
Start on quarter notes only. Once that feels steady, add eighths or triplets. The opposite drill also works: set beats 1 and 3 to silent on the beat squares and play against only 2 and 4.
Frequently asked questions
Where are setlists saved?
Only in the browser on the device you are using. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why no sign-up is needed. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Can I use the same setlist on another device?
Yes, by exporting the text and loading it there. There is no automatic sync. You can also hand the same setlist to everyone in the band.
I play in more than one band.
Make as many setlists as you like and switch between them — one per band, or one for the show and one for rehearsal.
Does it handle odd time signatures?
Yes, 5/4 and 7/8 among others. Group 7/8 as 2+2+3 and the start of each group is accented slightly.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. In portrait the controls sit within thumb reach. Note that the sound stops if the screen sleeps, so keep the display awake while you practise.
